The Super bowl and Toot's Restaurants' party to benefit United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties have become synonymous in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. The 23rd Annual Toot’s Super Bowl Party, benefiting United Way, will be held Sunday afternoon with lots of prizes, game boards and, of course, buffalo wings. The event will be held at the 200-seat location on Broad Street in Murfreesboro and the 150-seat site at 301 Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna. A former longtime United Way board member, Toot's owner Wade Hays sees the annual party as a way to give back to the community. "We've always given back to the community. It's always been good to us and we feel it’s important to give back. United Way is one of the better ways to do so," he said. The event nets several thousand dollars each year for United Way. "This is one of our best events of the year," Hays said, noting, "Chicken wings and Toot’s kind of tie right in with the Super bowl." Each restaurant will have two big boards, common at Super bowl parties where the game score determines winners who have purchased a certain square. Each square will sell for $5 with the money going to United Way and the game winners receiving a variety of prizes, including coolers, lounge chairs and restaurants gift certificates. Winners will be pulled at the end of each quarter. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 for a halftime drawing of three winners who will claim an autographed Kelly Holcomb photo, a David Price baseball and Price autographed photo. Holcomb is a former MTSU star and NFL quarterback while Price is a rookie sensation with the Tamp Bay Rays. Square for the score game and raffle can be purchased in advance. In addition to prizes and other fun, Hays said the restaurant would offer a babyback ribs special, dine-in only, for $9.99 and two for one draft beers all day. Expecting to sell 20,000 chicken wings at the two locations Sunday, Hays said Toot's is already taking carryout orders, allowing customers to place gameday orders and lock in a pickup time. He said extra staff and cooking equipment would be brought in for Super Sunday.
